Goodbye blue carpet

Tomorrow's the day....goodbye blue carpet hello new carpet....colour pic to follow after I regain my energy and reconnect my computer (with my computer Geek) supervising. The blue carpet was here when I purchased the condo and I probably could have saved myself alot of work by putting new carpet in before moving in, chances are, I would have put blue carpet in again. Which isn't bad but the last condo was blue carpet also. Motto - live somewhere for awhile before you make major changes, like choosing a new colour for carpet, you never know how your taste and choice may change. Sorta like major life changes, sometimes you have to live with a choice for awhile before you make a change - i.e. job, relationship, move, etc., whatever. Interesting how change/choice are intertwined and more often than not, by circumstances.
thought for today, from me "YIKES! can't believe I've done so much to the condo in such a short time."

More April Sound Safety Day Pics

Just a few more pics....enjoy!

April Sound Safety Day

It's Safety Day in April Sound. The constables, sheriff's, A/S Security force, MFD/EMS, MFDepartment - all participate. Coolest equipment which of course all of the kids go wild for. The Emergency Disaster Coach was the largest (short of the Ladder Truck), air-conditioned inside and every type of control issue possible that might be necessary in a disaster situation, i.e., IKE or such. I skipped the face-painting, didn't want to be the only adult (?) in line with all the kids. Also, skipped the hot dogs, but did enjoy a fresh cold bottle of water and brought home some neat flashlights. It's really nice to have a good relationship with the people who protect our community. Thanx for stopping by today.
I've recently come upon a new source of quotes - Edmund Burke (1729-1797), Irish orator, philosopher & politician "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." Rather appropriate for this particular time in history, imho.
Enjoy your weekend...:-)

Check out my pretty sink

Mike the friendly person from the plumbing company and his assistant came yesterday and installed my new sink and faucet. Way cool. The faucet is a new type where the sprayer is enclosed in the faucet. You just pull it out and squirt. Having the kitchen redone is really great and buying all of the stuff was fun also. My taste have certainly changed from years gone by.

Today was also the ASLA luncheon, had the Creighton Players performed for their new production "Annie Get Your Gun". Lots of fun, good food and friendship.
Today's thought - First Search Engine - Everyone is familiar with Google as a popular search engine that people think it's always been there. But, in fact, the first search engine in the world was devoloped in 1990 at McGill University in Montreal and was dubbed Archie....

You saw before kitchen/now see

After the work was done. Lupe did the installation of the new Formica in the kitchen, it added 4" to my bar and he was good enough to hang 2 new light fixtures over the bar. He also installed over my stove a new kitchen light. Wonderful improvements. Today I spent an hour replacing my kitchen magnets on the fridge, give or take a few hundred. It's almost like having a brand new kitchen (basically it is)...I even took time to re-arrange alot of my drainboard appliances. The look of the '70's has gone mod and looks so much better. Lupe did a great job, he was here from 9:00 a.m. and finally left alittle after 7:00 p.m. Good work Lupe, job well done.

Fridge - Clean

No kitchen magnets....227 magnets in my tote bag - fridge got a good spic'n' span go-over and after the drainboards are replaced tomorrow I'll replace the magnets....(maybe not so many) stay tuned!

Kitchen=Before

Tomorrow is the magic day. My new kitchen drainboards will be installed. I've been busy preparing the kitchen, i.e., moving everything into the living and dining rooms. Wasn't expecting the installation quite so soon, but it works for me tomorrow. The new sink will be installed on Tuesday and hooked up. Dinner out?

More ALSA pics

Yesterday was ASLA Garden Gals monthly meeting. We traveled to Arbor Gate Nursery in Tomball where the Houston Chronicle Plant/Garden Columnist spoke to us and answered many many questions. A gentleman from Portland,OR was there also talking about fungi and soil, particularly Texas soil. It was informative and lasted about an hour.5...Then we shopped and that of course was overwhelmingly fun because there is such a wonderful selection. Arbor Gate is definitely one of my favs and I'll go there again and probably again. We went into Tomball proper, old town, and had lunch at a really cute restaurant just at the railroad crossing called Whistle Stop. There were about 21 of us, so I could only load 5 pics, there will be more. Anyway, after a great lunch we headed home and stopped at Teas Herbs & Orchids nursery. That was o.k. - not like Arbor Gate and maybe a return trip will be in order. The folks were very nice there in helping us. We have alot of really sharp gals who are knowledgeable and it's really fun and helpful with my gardening. check the next post for more pics.

presenting, Dexter

Living in April Sound has lots of advantages, but one of the best benefits is living in a gated, secure neighborhood. Dexter is one of the security force that gives us a nice feeling that when we leave and when we return, that everything will be o.k. During January when I returned from Savannah and was so ill, I called the guard shack to adivse that I had called 911. Within seconds Dexter was at my door and waited with me till the EMS arrived. He was kind, helpful in gathering up my belongings to take with me, and made sure when the EMS arrived, that my door was locked and reassured me everything would be o.k. (BF was working and not able to hurry to my assistance but he came as soon as he could to the hospital).
We often take for granted those who work in the community and sometimes don't even say "thanx". It's their "job". Then you have the opportunity to meet someone like Dexter and saying thanx is the right thing to do. So Dexter, thanx alot for always being a caring, kind and nice guy...see 'ya!

NIght light

It's probably not the best pic in the world, but my friend and neighbor Shari gave me a butterfly night light. I use it in my dressing area and at night, when the rest of the house is dark, the warm glow from this little light is very pleasing. My walls are soft peach and the reflection of the light thru the monarch butterfly design is soft and gives the dressing area a cozy feeling.
I'm attracted to things that make my life warm and cozy and grateful to Shari for being so thoughtful and such a good friend. During the time of the accident last year, she took charge of my plants and was very attentive in her thoughtfulness. The little light at night is just a reminder of her many kindness to me. How lucky am I?
thought of the day from Anne Wilson Schaef "Life is a process. We are a process. The universe is a process." Take charge and enjoy your life each day.

Quiet Friday

Stayed in most of the day because last night I had some type of allergic reaction to something and at 2:00 a.m. I awoke with itchy itchy itchy feelings. Lathered with various lotions and such, no relief...in days of yore, one of my dogs had what the vet referred to as a "hot spot", meaning an itch they could not control and needed scratching all the time. Well, I had hot spots everywhere. Only thing I could think of was perhaps some product that was new to me was used at the beauty shop. Did drive to Walgreens for something to help and now at least I'm somewhat more comfy. Hope I can sleep thru the night.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate the holiday and to those still celebrating Passover, Matoz High!

Country Club Construction

For those of you who may not know, April Sound Country Club burned to the ground about 3 years ago. Finallyyyy, after alot of discussion, cussin' and whatever, they finally had ground breaking last week. Today the big guys were there taking down one of the beautiful magnolias. Guess the tree was in the way of progress. BF and I went into the Lakeside Room the other day so I could show him the projected Club designs and inside areas. Hopefully it will be very nice and a place to go and enjoy our new Chef and his offerings. Last chef wasn't toooo hot. BF and I went to Walden Yacht Club several weeks ago for their follies and dinner. The food was great, the show fun and the ambiance lovely. I really hope our club will turn out that nice.

Today's thought from Eric Fromm on Man for Himself - "Neither the good nor the evil outcome is automatic or preordained. The decision rests with man. It rests upon his ability to take himself, his life and happiness seriously; on his willingness to face his and his society's moral problem. It rests upon his courage to be himself and to be for himself."

Gardening day

BF is in the process of adding more details to the landscape. My job, I'm the "go-fer"....so, off I go to Lowe's to buy even more dirt. I believe this makes the 3rd or 4th trip for 16 bags of soil. It's really earthy, good rich top soil. We've even potted a few of my new Sheiff's in some. So far, so good. When I was little, Daddy use to have the lawn person bring in a load of real fertilizer, straight from the stables. I think I was the only one that loved the smell of it...YIKES...what does that tell you about my sense of smell? :-) anyway, I really don't mind going to Lowe's for BF, after all, he goes with me so it's an easy and fun place to go. So much fun in fact that I've ordered new carpet for my condo and am in the process of ordering new bathroom vanity and sink for my dressing area. I think Lowe's loves me. and next on the agenda is new drainboards in the kitchen.
I'm just a "Lowe's Lover"....

Page 2 of the TEXAS stuff

2 good not 2 continue..................
Texas is the only state to enter the U.S. by TREATY (known as the Constitution of 1845 by the Republic of Texas to enter the Union) instead of by annexation. This allows the Texas Flag to fly at the same height as the U.S. Flag, and may divide into 5 states.
The Capitol Dome in Austin is the only dome in the U.S. which is taller than the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. (by 7 feet).
The name "Texas" comes from the Hasini Indian word "tejas" meaning friends. Tejas is not Spanish for Texas.
The State Mascot is the Armadillo .
The first domed stadium in the U.S. was the Astrodome in Houston.
The Bluebonnet is the state flower of Texas.
and that's what I like about Texas....bragging rites also.........:-)
