Now I believe.....

Driving to USPS the other day to mail something, lo and behold, a Unicorn. I was always told if you see one, you must believe.....so, I believe. I'm not sure in what but it's a nice thought. He wasn't there last week on my journey to the library, so he must have swooped down and landed in front of a restaurant. It's always nice to have a unicorn in Montgomery. We have so many interesting and unusual items, it's kinda neat. One never knows what might be around the next turn.
Today, we finally had RAIN....and a good amount. It was a wonderful plus for our town, which like every other town, city, etc. in Texas has been parched. My kids in Seattle have been fighting uncomfortably high temps and yesterday it soared to 103 degrees. Seattle has never had temps that high and with no air conditioning, you can only imagine the impact on the places that were air conditioned. The climate seems to be so crazy, maybe it's the "global" word?
Today's thought from Blaise Pascal "Man is incapable of seeing the nothingness from which he emerges and the infinity in which he is engulfed".

How deep are your cracks?

How deep are your cracks? Whew! When it's 100 out and dry, dry, dry, it's pretty gosh darn hot! We'll probably have a rainy and cold winter....Fingers crossed!

Artist me?

My creative, artistic needs are rearing up and I feel the need to create. Unpacking and rearranging all of my various tools, tiles, mirrors and colours, etc., I found my glue gun. I never used it last year so after reading the directions I found some tiles, stones, glitter and decided to give it a try. Nifty little gadget and I had a good time (withstanding the amount of time it took to get the glue off my fingers). All in all the results looked good and I'll post some pics tomorrow or the next day.
Last October April Sound held it's annual craft fair. I had purchased a table and was all set to go when history changed my destination and I was unable to participate. This year I am once again considering doing the craft show, particularly since I have about 200 tiles left from last year. No brain er, so it seems to me. Now if I only have the energy!
Monday's thought from Johann Volfgang von Goethe "There is nothing more dreadful than imagination without taste". I hope that is not indicative of my tiles. :-)

Thinking about................

Collecting/Collections - it all began in the 60's (YIKES) when I started collecting owls. Statues, ceramics, metal, it "became a collection". Most of which I still have. Thru the years, I've added bells, hearts, miniature tea pots, but mostly my favorite collection has been"thoughts". During my last working years at a law firm, I published daily an interoffice newsletter, always ending with a "thought for the day". Continuing even today with my blog.
In the early 80's when I was still in finance, I had the opportunity to meet a gentleman who worked for United Technologies. Harry J. Gray, President of United had published a book called GRAY MATTERS. The assistance I was able to provide to the gentleman was appreciated and he sent me a copy of the book. I pulled it off the bookshelf this a.m. as I awoke during the night thinking about it and what wonderful thoughts and ideas I could add to my blog. Albeit, a bit long, most of the articles are worth the read. So once a week, I shall devote the blog to such. UTC received request for more than 4,225,000 reprints. Johnny Carson read one of the messages on his show. Ann Landers reprinted many of them. School boards, military leaders and even the WSJ have taken advantage of these words. Perhaps the most important words came from Mr. Gray himself when he wrote "How we perform as individuals will determine how we perform as a nation". Hopefully some of our nation (my readers) will appreciate that.
I believe I will make Sunday the day for GRAY MATTERS beginning next Sunday. I've written enough for today. and of course, my thought for today echos Mr. Gray's statement, lets lift our morals, virtues, positives and once again perform as a nation.

WONDERFUL....watch this..............

You may have already seen this, at least as many times as I have - but it is the most JOYOUS, HAPPY, FUN, wedding I've seen or been to in years. It's late but I had to watch it one more time before going to sleep - it's the best 5:09 minutes on the Internet!
ENJOY, enjoy, enjoy and good night.

ASLA Luncheon 7/22/09

Today was the ASLA July luncheon. Shari joined me and we had a fine time. We made the bulletin board from last months luncheon. Also, Chef Paul was handy so I snapped away, and particularly the fantastic deserts. Shari and I shared, so we only had half the calories (ha!)....Curves presented the program, several ASLA ladies modeled their workout clothes and the young owners talked. They met in Guam when they were both stationed in the Navy and eventually ended up in Montgomery and purchased the Montgomery Curves facility. I won a door prize, lovely tube of Crabtree and Evelyn hand cream. Nice....

Mother & Daughter happy pics

My daughter is a much better photographer than I am. Plus she puts them all together and it not only saves space but I think it's cute.
Today was house day. James came to clean the chimney and blow the dryer vent thru the walls to the outside. It's been about 2+ years and he did a great job. My only concern was when I went into to see how it was coming and all that I found was his cap. YIKES! He was actually in the chimney. Good thing he was a trim young man. Job done, good for another 2+ years.

Adios Sugar Pie

Sugar Pie returned to West Hollywood yesterday evening (albeit the rain and lighting strikes and a 1+.5 hour delay). We drove into H'town yesterday to meet my family and visit and then onward to see some friends and then onward once again to IAH and her departing flight. It was, as always, wonderful to be with her. We always laugh and have so much fun together. She is my own personal treasure and I'm blessed. Luckily, I'll see her again in about 2+ weeks when I once again fly the skies to LA. Her hubby's movie will screen to the public on 8/14 and I'm going to see it and go to the parteeee....Gonna be fun.
Slightly overcast today, possibly some more showers in the sky.

TGIF

Daughter and I out and about and having lunch at a neighborhood Mexican Restaurant. Nice restaurant, good lunch selections and the food was tasty and just right for lunch. Quick stop at Walgreens and Wal-Mart and we are back home. Went to Snap this a.m. and worked out so we qualified for a good Mexican lunch. She is at the pool now. I'm in the cool indoors and blogging....mucho fun. TGIF is the best thought for today!

mmmmmgood.............

Absolutely nothing feels as good as a pedi/mani/mini massage....it's the best. The finishing touch to a lovely afternoon spa time. (I think Kayla was totally relaxed). We had a busy day of swimming, shopping, lunch at a fav Italian restaurant in Conroe and then the spa. How nice is that? We've had such fun together, never a dull moment. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Busy daughter and mom

Always working, always working, even on a lazy vacation in Montgomery. Waking up late, having a nice relaxing swim and then on our way for shopping, lunch, shopping, shopping and finally giving up for the day. Shopping karma was good today even tho it was about 103 degrees. Kayla playing catch up after dinner with some business stuff. Tomorrow it is more of the same except we are off for mani/pedis in the afternoon. It is such a pleasure having my daughter with me, we have a really good time together and I'm a very lucky mom.

Had to travel to H'town for a dentist appt today and also to pick up my darling daughter at IAH. She's here, BF met us for lunch, visited and then we came home. Back on track..........

Been a little on the lazy side recently and decided it was TIME to get going again at Snap. When you slow down or stop exercising, it's really a pain to start back. Excuses, excuses, excuses.........but today I got religious about it. Good workout, heart did well, hip also....I'll go again on Friday. Back to M,W,F schedule. Gold star for me today.

May have used this thought before but it seems appropriate for today, from Dr. Thomas Fuller "All things are difficult before they are easy". that's it for exercising for sure!

Charles B. Stewart - West Branch Library

My friend Gail informed me yesterday that the public library has CD's that you can check out (just like a library book). I did not know that as I have probably not set foot in a library in quite a long time. This morning I made the trip to the new library in Montgomery. It's about 6 miles down the road but well worth the trip. Upon presenting my TX Driver's License, I was given a library card. To date myself, I can honestly say my first library card was over a half century ago, and I used it and loved it. Making things more interesting (besides a great selection of cd's) I found that Texas Master Gardener Bob Daily will be speaking at the library Thursday eve. Returning home I immediately sent an email to the Garden Gals to let them know. Spent the afternoon downloading the cd's to my computer and iPod. way cool....(considering it was close to 100 degrees today, I mean that in the coooollllll sense)...

"Oh say can you see...............

Lakeview Terrace is alive and well and celebrating the 4th. From my front porch, to the boats at the drive for the marina, to the bright sun, we are ready! Later BF and I will have our traditional 4th dinner. Hot dogs, chili, onions, relish, potato salad, cole slaw and share a slice of watermelon for desert. We will probably watch fireworks from the coolness of the recliners. No need to go out into the heat.
Thank you John Hancock, Josiah Bartlett, William Whipple, Matthew Thornton, Samuel Adams, John Adams, Robert Treat Paine, Elbridge Gerry and all the other signers of The Declaration of Independence, according to the authenticated list printed by order of Congress Jan. 18, 1777.

Thursday evening

I attended the memorial service for Andrea's dad. It was a good distance from home so I left early to avoid the traffic. Grace (left), one of my special angels, met me at On The Border for an early dinner and lots of conversation. Saw her beautiful engagement ring and we discussed all of the wedding doings to this point. We then went to the church for the 7:00 p.m. memorial service. Trinette (right) was there, along with Michael and Sylvia. I had not seen Michael since my own mother's memorial service, and Trinette from my hospital stay. It was a very touching service and I am glad I attended. Andrea was a co-worker years back but we have stayed in touch and once again, she was very caring when I was hospitalized. Her dad was memorialize as a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, brother and sister sibling. I only had met him once at an open house but was impressed at that time of his gentle manner and kind face.
