National Geographic News dated 12/30/2009 "For the first time in almost 20 years, a bright "blue moon" will grace the New Year's Eve celebrations worldwide. If the skies are clear, revelers looking up at midnight will get an eyeful of the second 'full moon' of the month- commonly called a blue moon. The last time a blue moon appeared on New Year's Eve was in 1990 and it won't happen again until 2028."
As defined, the name does not refer to a color change of the moon, but to the rarity of 2 full moons in a month, ergo...."once in a blue moon".
Notable also, December 30th was 21 years ago that the "designated driver" program began. Please remember, "if you drink, don't drive" and if you are out partying, volunteer to be the designated driver so you can be sure everyone returns home safely. It's the best way to start a New Year. :-)
My black-eyed peas are ready for tomorrow, I know it is only a southern thing, but I wouldn't be without them on the 1st.
Lots of football, food, travel, fun and all other good things in 2010 to each of you. Thanx for reading my blog and following my adventures this year. It's been real!!!!!!
