As we leave 2010, some thoughts to ponder.....

Cleaning out my quotations so I can start again - here are some to take with you and/or delete, whichever you prefer. :-)
Samuel Johnson "Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful."
Sam Levenson "You must learn from the mistakes of others. You can't possibly live long enough to make them all yourself."
Oscar Wilde "Illusion is the first of all pleasures."
Bertrand Russell "Of all forms of caution, caution in love is perhaps the most fatal of true happiness."
William Safire "Is sloppiness in speech caused by ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care."
Hagar the Horrible "As you journey through life take a minute every now and then to give a thought for the other fellow. He could be plotting something."
H.H. Williams "Furious activity is no substitute for understanding."
Dick Werthimer "The purpose of life is to fight maturity."
W. Somerset Maugham "She had a pretty gift for quotation, which is a serviceable substitute for wit."
Lawrence J. Peter "Speak when you are angry-and you will make the best speech you'll ever regret."
Thomas Carlyle "The greatest of faults, I should say, is to be conscious of none."
A. H. Wiiler "Nothing is impossible for the man who doesn't have to do it himself."
I will save a few so I can use them in 2011. As you go into the eve - I wish you good health, happiness, safety and joy in the New Year.....Enjoy!

Last social event for 2010

Last night was the final social event for 2010 for me. My neighbors Joan & Mike had invited several of us for dinner at the Club to celebrate an early New Years Eve. Dinner was great, company even better and I was fortunate to make some new acquaintances. That is always a plus for me. The Club was relatively busy and most of the holiday decorations had been taken down. A nice evening with nice people and a fun way to end the year. I've been busy going thru all of my quotes and thought this might be a good one to begin to end the year with from Teddy Roosevelt "Do what you can with what you have, where you are." I do like that thought and will probably keep it on my permanent list of reminders.

Dream, dream little girls.....

Stopping by this evening after I returned from working at CRMC, my neighbors showed me the incredible doll house they had purchased and assembled themselves for their granddaughters Christmas gift. I know my daughter would have been awed by it and probably loved one if I had had the talent or $$$'s to buy the plans and attachments. One of our neighbors when darling daughter was growing up had built one and she spent alot of time at their home visiting the dollhouse. This particular doll house was three stories, with every imaginable table, chair, dish, cup, swimming pool, umbrella, open and close closets, etc. A really wonderful imagine of someones real house. It was definitely a treat to have the opportunity to see their handiwork and the end results. I was envious of their skill and patience. WTG Joan and Mike. Today's thought from Life's Little Instruction Book #380 "Pay attention to the details" . I know a couple who certainly follows that philosophy.

So, yesterday I was wearing shorts......

and today I am sitting under my warm and furry throw - enjoying some popcorn from my new popcorn maker and watching the logs crackle and jump. Yes, the weather did a 360 degree turn about - much rain and wind during the night (good sleeping) and still windy today with temp probably in the 40's. I only stepped out to gather my newspaper this a.m. And have not been out since. It is going to remain very very cold tonight thru Tuesday. In the low 30's. How about that for Texas winter time! Hoping all of your holiday wishes came true and now we rock on to the New Year. From Emerson "Let us be silent, that we may hear the whispers of the gods."

'Twas the day before

Christmas and all thru Montgomery, the sun is shining and it is a beautiful day, soooo, where is the rain and cold weather? Supposedly it will be here this evening, just in time for Santa and maybe a friendly snowman in the morning. Best wishes to all for a happy and joyous Christmas and a wonderful 2011.
"Today's thought from Life's Little Instruction Book #274 "Leave everything a little better than you found it." Peace and good will to all.

SET YOUR ALARMS.....TONIGHTS THE NIGHT

The Earth will cast a red shadow on the moon tonight in a lunar eclipse that coincides with the winter solstice for the first time since 1638. The next time this will happen is in 2094. So, pay attention since I will not be around then to give you all of this information. :-) The eclipse tonight is set to begin at 12:33 a.m. The winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The eclipse will occur while the moon is traveling along its highest part in the sky. The total eclipse will last 72 minutes. During the eclipse, portions of the moon will appear blood red, with refracted light from the atmosphere falling onto its surface. Parts of the moon will also appear to be a deep black. Todays thought from Life's Little Instructions Book - Rule # 295 "Keep Expectations High". You will be sleepy tomorrow, but it's worth it tonight to view the eclipse.

Nutcrackers abound, what fun.....

Today my friends from CRMC, Carol, Joan and myself got together for a fun lunch. We went to the new "in spot" in Conroe, The Toasted Yolk. Selections for breakfast (served all day) and luncheon were terrific, restaurant did not resemble the Italian restaurant it had been for so many years, prices were acceptable, portions were large, fresh and excellent. We then convoyed over to Carol's to see her zillions of nutcrackers. She has obviously been collecting them for many years, at present at least 300 - maybe more. Every size, OU collection, MM's, everything was represented. Even her tree was decorated with the cute little guys. Listening to holiday music, kicked back in a big comfy recliner with good friends, doesn't get much better than that!!! From Life's Little Blessings, #304, thought "Judge your success by the degree that you're enjoying peace, health and love".

Another luncheon?????

And it's Luncheon #? I am beginning to feel like I am on a roll (with mustard and onions - that's a joke :-). However, fun is fun and fellowship with all my friends is especially nice. Today is was the ASLA Holiday Luncheon. The big gift bag is filled with goodies for a 12 year old girl - everything on her list. I hope it helps make her holiday fun. All of the ladies did the same for the "angel" they selected. We are so blessed and it's part of the season, so much better to give than receive.
Today's thought from Pope "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread". I've always heard that but never knew who said it.

H2U Luncheon today

And the luncheons keep on rolling in - today was H2U (Health to You), a part of CRMC. Today's luncheon was at our Club House. As usual the food was great, the decorations festive and there were about 90 people in attendance. I didn't win a door prize but everyone received a party favor of a beautiful Christmas ornament. Today's thought by Anais Nin "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are." Well said...and true. Have to dash - there is a holiday jewelry and art show at 4:00 p.m. so I'm off. Today is also the tour of houses that are decorated for the holidays, truthfully, I think I will be way 2222 tired after the jewelry, art show. Adios'.

One Year Ago.....

One year ago today, I went for an appointment at CRMC and seeing all of the holiday trees in the atrium, I decided to volunteer. Walking thru the hospital today and remembering the trees from last year reminded me that it is one year ago that I started volunteering. Each tree is decorated by a department and before Christmas they are donated to families in the Conroe/Montgomery area that need a tree but cannot afford one. Makes me very proud of the spirit of CRMC. I've enjoyed and learned so much, not to mention all the wonderful people I have come in contact with, doctors, nurses, techs, patients, patient families, etc. It has been a blessing in my life and I decided to volunteer for one extra day. Today's thought from Young - How blessings brighten as they take their flight."

Christmas in Historic Montgomery 2010

Today was Christmas in Historic Montgomery....There must have been at least 250 vendors, hundreds and hundreds of people, all shopping and dressed for summertime (surprise) as it was in the high 70's. The parade, Cookie Walk, face painting, gift items, gift items, and more were everywhere. The police had closed off most of the walking area and the hay wagon was carrying folks here and there, with the exception of those walking. You could hardly drive thru the throngs. I did manage to take 2 pics of the Wal Mart float and the Thank You Veterans float. Everything else was way 2 much for this little ole' lady to get involved with. Tonight it is in the low 30's, you know what they say about Texas weather, well it definitely did change starting about 5:00 p.m., just as the Navy -Army game ended. It was a fun, busy day. My thought for today is from Alice Roosevelt Longworth and I can identify with it "The secret of eternal youth is arrested development."

CRMC Volunteer Luncheon today at

Walden Yacht Club. The Club was decorated in holiday cheer, the food was good and the fellowship alot of fun. The Chorus Group from Bentwater entertained us and a short business meeting was held. We each received a really nice insulated mug. One luncheon down, 3 more to go next week. Don't ya just love the holidays. Today's thought from Maya Angelou in regard to gift giving "Among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver." Personally, I love giving.

Sunday Brunch at the Club

Some family and friends came for brunch today at the Club and the food was wonderful, everything was top notch. It's always nice to see family and friends especially since I now live "in the country". The baked brie was particularly yummy and for as big as it was, most of it was attacked with great gusto and enjoyment. More pics will follow, I am pooped tonight! Tonight's thought from John Russell "Sanity calms, but madness is more interesting". which says it all for today!

Weekend on the go....1st set of pics.

Today was 1st Saturday in Montgomery and everything was fun. Lots of people, vendors, goodies to purchase. Be sure and read "older posts" for more pics and info. Friday evening we went into Conroe for barbecue at McKenzies. Great bbq, cole slaw, etc. plus we visited their bake shop next door. Not too shabby for sure. Whoopie pies abound. It's the hot new item in Montgomery. Today we went to an art/jewelry open house by one of our neighbors and her daughter, picked up some cute holiday goodies. After 1st Saturday we went to one of my favs restaurants, Heritage House for some good ole' country food. Thought for today is from me (according to darling daughter) "Go on redneck, go on" to a loud and obnoxious truck driver who was noisy and rude.....

Weekend on the go.....pics cond't

Today's pics are of my Darling Daughter in the old Montgomery Jail and some beautiful fresh veggies for sale at the 1st Saturday in Montgomery. The weather was terrific, lots of vendors with neat stuff and we really had a great time.
