Decorating Divas do downtown Montgomery

Oh what fun! The Divas in downtown Montgomery. Believe it or not, we have some of the best antique and "stuff" stores. Something for everyone and particularly if you like glitz, glam and bling. One of our (my) favorite stores was and is, The Liberty Bell. Absolutely terrific stuff and I had a great time doing some up-coming birthday shopping for several friends. Really lush stuff. We visited about 4 shops plus the Decorating Center. (who knew?). Lunch was at a darling winery called Cork This, which is run by 2 young and very knowledgeable gals. The lunch was catered by Rabbit Run Tea House, another Divas favorite. One of my carpool friends is a local writer who also is a long time Montgomery resident. Jackie was able to give us alot of insight to the history of old Montgomery, including the shop we visited that was the original post office and soda fountain back in the 1800's. Imagine that. and the post office boxes remain along with the soda fountain. Seems as tho the Postmaster was also the soda jerk of Montgomery. How cool is that.
All in all, a long but fun day. Most of us were pooped by the time we finished but happy with all our purchases.
Weekend thought from T. S. Eliot "Humor is also a way of saying something serious".
Enjoy the weekend (isn't this a pretty color?)

ASLA Go Western Day Luncheon

Hot dog - it's Go Western Day and the April Sound Ladies did it in style. Colorful and fun, lots of fun. Food was delish, especially the pecan pie. Our Chef Paul did it again. Had an entertaining group of singers, music, very loud and country. What else would you expect. My pink cowboy hat was a big success.
From my list of quotes under health "Live with the 3 E's - Energy, Enthusiasm & Empathy". Don't know who it came from but it seems appropriate for this beautiful sunshiny day.

CMRC Volunteer Luncheon

Yesterday was the Volunteer Luncheon for Conroe Regional Medical Center. It was held at the Burkshire Plantation Home in downtown Conroe. Lovely old home build in 1935 and finished in 1936. Totally renovated and absolutely lovely. Even tho my taste do not run to anti-belum (sp?), I can certainly appreciate days gone by. There were 75 of us, many awarded updated pins for hour donated, my paltry 30 hours not yet enough for a pin. But I really enjoyed the luncheon and seeing new friends and meeting people that have volunteered at the hospital for 15-20 years. I'm so glad I am doing my "pay it forward". Today's thought from Frederick Engles "An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory". Have a great day.

As you can probably guess.....

by the lack of blogs, there have been some changes in my life. I've been spending more time away from Montgomery, gathering with friends in H'town. In a relatively short period of time, there is a new special person in my life. He brings a whole new term to the meaning of laughter and love to me. Along with friends of long years, I've emerged a "butterfly". I still am active with my hospital volunteering and ASLA ladies groups but with a new dimension of happiness. It's very nice.
Today's thought, "everyday is a new beginning and a second chance"....by me of course. Scroll down for a sweet pic...

And you think you have,,,,,

clothes.....Feeling better today, I decided to start my newest project. At our Decorating Divas Group meeting several weeks ago, 2 young ladies coached us on "un-cluttering" your closets, home, garage, car, etc....One of the neat gadgets they brought with them were super thin, velvety smooth coat hangers. Over the weekend, I saw them at Cosco and purchased 2 boxes of 50 each. Now, that is alot of coat hangers I agree, but guess what, I've totally used one whole box, working on the 2nd box and definitely will need one more box. It was a great time to once again clean out my closets. Fortunately I only have three. closets, so that is a big help. Checking out my hall closet after I successfully moved all the coats, jackets, etc. it looks great. Unfortunately I ran out of energy. In the next week or so, I'll complete the task. sigh...how nice!
Today's thought from Henry Stimson "The only way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him". I'm sure that applies to women also. Good thought.

Under the weather.....

UGH! Sometime during the weekend I met up with a "bug". You know, the nasty kind that makes you feel all creepy, crawly, yucko....Don't know if it was the hospital, the ballet, food, activity, whatever. Spent most of my morning in the recliner, missed the Garden Gals meeting and just felt sorry for myself. Finally about 1:00 p.m. I started to feel better. Only redeeming thing today was starting on my tax stuff.
Early voting started today for among other things, Governor of the State of TEXAS. Have to think about that for a little while, I do however like W. C. Fields though on voting "I never vote for anyone; I always vote against".
All I can think of for today. Take care, it was a beautiful sunshiny day. :-)

Belated.....

Dominic Walsh Dance Theater and Mercury Baroque Singers, presentation of Romeo & Juliet at the Wortham Theater. What a wonderful Valentine Day. A great weekend, great company and all ended today with return to Montgomery and the Hospital for volunteering .

Valentine, albeit belated, from Buckingham "Love is the salt of life; It gives to pleasure , and then makes it last".

So which of these 4 pics is HEALTHY?

Choices, choices, choices.....gelato or delicious Honey Crisp Apples?
Why not have both...sounds like a great idea to me. Gelato shop in H'town is always busy. We have one in Montgomery, I've got to try it. Gelato becomes a habit, albeit 2 much of a good thing is NOT good. sigh....Whipped air, sugar, cream, yum!
Again from Leo Rosten -"No one is as deaf as the man who will not listen".

"WHO DAT".............

Dat be the TEXANS 2011....It's about time. If the Black & Gold Saints can do it, so can we.....! lots of fun yesterday. Good food, good company and certainly the game (2nd half) was exciting. Can't wait for the season to start again.
Today is February 8, the 39th day of 2010. There are 326 days left in the year.
Happy Birthday to the Boy Scouts of America. They were incorporated on this date in 1910.
I note my calendar for February is already filling up. Now that I volunteer at the regional hospital, their luncheon conflicts with one of my ASLA ladies function. Sigh....being popular and involved can be difficult....(little pat on the back for that one).
In life we sometimes have to make decisions that are hard - looking in my book of Familiar Quotation, I find this one appropriate by Lamb - "The matter of choosing well, is whether a man (or woman) likes what he has chosen". I do....:-)

Friday, February 5 - it's .....

NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY....Red is hot, red is sexy and today it is a very powerful color. Wearing RED today shows your support against heart disease, which is Public Enemy #1 for American women because it is the biggest killer.
Gal pals - it's time to get healthy. Are you eating right? Are there other ways you could maintain a healthy lifestyle? Today, representatives from the American Heart Association will preside over the NASDAQ Opening Bell in support of the Go Red campaign.
If you are and about today, wear RED and wear it proudly. Do you part in supporting this campaign. Hey, guys, wear a red tie for the ladies in your life.

Better late than never, here's the news....

Phil predicts 6 more weeks of winter. Of course, it was 7:30 a.m. this morning when poor Phil was rudely awaken and taken to task to see his shadow. I truly believe with all of the media lights, he had no choice but to see his shadow. In addition, it was lightly snowing...What kinda deal is that! I actually awoke this morning to see the excitement. Lots of gents with top hats and tuxes and the crowd was in a frenzy! Whoa Nellie...
fyi - February 2, 1850. Brownsville. After the Mexican war, the Rio Grande Valley is boiling. Postwar white settlers begin to dispute land titles of Hispanics believed loyal to Mexico. Newspaper editor Joseph Palmer calls a meeting at the schoolhouse, asking congress to make south Texas a U.S. territory. They want to secede from Texas. When the legislature vows to fix the grants, the secession movement dies. The Rio Grande territory never happened 160 years ago this month in Texas history.
I like this thought from Evan Esar : "Character is what you have left when you've lost everything you can lose".

February 1, 2010....Facts & Figures

away we go......somehow January slipped right past me...February 1, 2010. A few facts.....
Today is the 32nd day of 2010. There are 333 days left in the year.
In 1861, Texas voted to secede from the Union.
February is Black (African-American) History Month.
It is also Valentine's Day. Several notable birthdays, if you keep up with that sort of info) Princess Stephanie of Monaco is 45. Lisa Marie Presley is 42. Actor Pauly Shore is 42...and on and on...
Today was Volunteer Day at CRMH - busy day in the Cath Lab. I really enjoy my involvement at the hospital and seeing faces that are becoming familiar.
Over my wonderful weekend I had an opportunity to enjoy Leo Rosten's, Treasury of Jewish Quotations. Here are a few:
"It's better to be embarrassed than ashamed"
"Gossip is nature's telephone"
"The man who marries for money will earn it"
"Pity was invented by the weak"
Tomorrow, Punxsutawney Phil will give us his weather report, hopefully no more cold weather...
Slumber well all......................
