Blog updates......

Famous last words - Almosttttt.....just about the time that I think I am finally done with all of my updating of the condo, I find something else to do. New windows - will cut the heat (I have a western exposure) in the back and also keep the dust out (hopefully no more dusting).....and now I find out that I can get patio doors that are just like the windows....sigh....I guess I will have Kelly measure before they finish this job. Still waiting for the beveling (sp?) to be completed on my hall bath mirror....Fortunately doing updates does serve one purpose, I am constantly cleaning....
Today's thought from Henry Ford "An idealist is a person who helps other people to be prosperous"....
Skies clouding up - hope they complete the job soon. :-(

Russian Ukraine Folk Concert

Saturday evening we took a chance and went to see the The Houston Balalaika Society Folk Concert. I saw a small ad in the West University Times Newsletter and thought it might be something of interest. Turned out to be a most wonderful evening. People of Russian and Ukraine background were in multi-colored and beautiful costumes, the musical instruments were all authentic, and the whole evening was like being transported to another place and time. Somewhere between 100-150 people attended the concert and it ended about 10:30 p.m. We had the opportunity to meet and greet several very charming people and my favorite little neighborhood store, The Russian Store, on Hillcroft was one of the host for the evening.
Should you ever find they are in your area and performing, it is a definite MUST SEE and HEAR! Absolutely charming evening.

June 14 - Flag Day

Home just in time for FLAG DAY!
June 14, 1777 - Continental Congress adopts the Stars and Stripes, with 13 stripes and 13 stars.
Other interesting info - October 12, 1892 - First large-scale reading of the Pledge of Allegiance. June 24, 1921 - Specific proportions spelled out for the flag by presidential order. August 3, 1949 - President Harry Truman signs law declaring June 14 National Flag Day. August 21, 1959 - President Dwight Eisenhower authorizes addition of 50th star, recognizing Hawaii's admittance to the Union.
Long may she wave! Especially now!

Summertime and the livin' is easy

but HOT, HOT, HOT - and it is just the beginning of June. Nice tho to have lunch with friend Anna at a really cute bistro in River Oaks. Also, pleasant surprise that my African Violet bloomed...Running around in the heat really does me in, I guess the ole gal ain't what she used to be, no matter how hard I try. Spent the Memorial Day weekend in H'town and mostly stayed inside. Did take time to see Sex -City 2....The clothes were to die for, certainly not for me to consider ever wearing but the flick was fun and good. And my honey made sure I had plenty of cool ginger ale to stand the heat.
This is kinda gross for a motivating thought for the day but I had to laugh - and laughing is good for everyone....from Evan Esar "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and Jill a rich widow". Must be out of practice with the thoughts for the day...:-(
