Fiddling around in the kitchen

Spent yesterday looking for a new refridge and last night I started removing the kitchen magnets I've collected (or received as reminders from friends of their travels) from my present fridge. Just on the refrigerator part, I collected almost 300 - the remaining I'll remove today from the freezer unit. Who can resist a beautiful apple? Certainly not me, I found some Honeycrisp the other day and bought two of them. They are ravishing and I hate to even eat them because I think they are beautiful. Our Halloween carnival in the neighborhood is tomorrow and I will bake cookies for the cake walk. Going to put them on the pretty sunflower paper plates I got the other day. It's a beautiful day out, 35 degrees and I'm off to do a few errands before the afternoon football games come on t.v. It's a great day!

Unbelievable!!!!....

OMG! Today was the Ladies Association's Craft Show and luncheon. Here it is 10/27 and it was 93 degrees out. The early shopping for members started at 9:30 a.m. Last year I was pooped out by 10:00 a.m. so this year I did not go until 11:00 a.m. There were 42 vendors, lots of bling and glitz, sweaters (?) Christmas decorations, etc. It was great fun and fortunately the shopping was in the Lakeside Room which is very very air conditioned. The luncheon however was outside on the patio!!!!! The little pads of butter melted before we even were served our rolls. The food was actually very good, as it almost always is, but the heat was unbearable! Saw lots of friends, they were all sweating, excuse me, perspiring, and some of us left just after the lunch. I did stay long enough to go collect my door prize. :-) My thought for today "It should never be this hot the end of October unless you live in Arizona or such."

Just as I finished posting this

blog for today, I noticed that my stats for 2010 - this is blog #100!

Sunday Gray Matter 10.24.2010

THE DECLINE OF STANDARDS - this Gray Matter appeared in February 1982. United received 4,106 letters and mailed 24,878 reprints of this article. Although 28 years have passed and the status quo of today's standards has changed, the message ultimately remains the same.

Most Beautiful.....

most mysterious - MOON - the light is so bright I could see it from my front porch and it was beautiful. Amazingly I was even able to capture it with my cel phone camera. For once I wish I would have had a really fancy camera with a zoom lens. The wonders of it all. Not a harvest moon or a blue moon - but lovely anyway.

RED......

65 or older - You must see RED - "retired extremely dangerous"!!!!! Even if you are not 65 - go see it. I am not a Bruce Willis fan, do like Helen Mirr, Morgan Freeman, Ernest and some of the old guys - the show is strictly loud, exciting and lots of fun..the audience was primarily seniors, but everyone laughed and laughed. A great afternoon of entertainment. When I grow up, that's what I want to do!
My goal for the last 2 years has been to travel monthly, somewhere, anywhere, I had a great and good time going and doing. This year, my goal is to see a movie every week. So far, so good!
from Ambrose Bierce "There is nothing new under the sun but there are lots of old things we don't know." I agree!

I Heart.....

As of late, I've been volunteering more than my usual once a week. Call it "paying back or paying forward" I really enjoy being at CRMC in the Cath Lab Waiting Area. Granted October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I would not take anything away from that but Sudden Cardiac Arrest Month is also an October awareness month. There is a difference between a heart attack and cardiac arrest. FYI - because I think it is important.
A heart attack can be recovered from where sudden cardiac arrest most usually results in death. To the lay rescuer, terms like cardiac arrest and heart attack can seem interchangeable. Indeed, the media regularly mixes them up. As long as CPR is performed on victims who collapse, the name of the condition isn't that important.
Answer: No.
The term heart attack refers to damage to the muscle of the heart, usually from a lack of blood flow. Most of the time a blood clot forms in one of the arteries that supply heart muscle with blood, blocking the flow of blood. As the heart muscle starves it begins to die, causing chest pain and other heart attack symptoms.
Cardiac arrest happens when the heart stops pumping blood. With no pumping action, the blood pressure falls and blood is no longer forced into the muscles and organs of the body. There are all sorts of reasons the heart will stop pumping blood. It might get extremely weak or begin quivering uselessly. It might also start racing so fast it can no longer fill with blood, which causes the blood pressure to fall dangerously.
Recognize a heart attack and get help immediately to avoid cardiac arrest. Don't hesitate to call an ambulance for things like chest pain. If a victim collapses in front of you and stops breathing, he or she is likely in cardiac arrest and needs CPR.

Today's thought from H.H. Milman "I have ease and I have health. And I have spirits light as air. And more than wisdom and more than wealth- A merry heart that laughs at care."

Early Voting.....

Early voting started today and you know I was going to be an "early bird" and vote today. As a matter of fact, I arrived at the annex to vote at 9:20 a.m. and was #35 - with folks waiting in line behind me. Took about 30 minutes to do the deed and when I was leaving the line was out the annex and down the sidewalk. I doubt that amount will be for all of the early voting days, but it was good to see everyone out being responsible citizens. This is an important election for TEXAS, will be interesting to see the results. My theory "If you don't vote you can't complain"....so, VOTE! Do your job!

Heritage House

Fall is in the air and it was such a lovely day, my friend Shari and I decided to go for lunch after finishing our errands. We chose the Heritage House, an old house converted to a restaurant. It is very popular with the locals and every table was full. We waited about 15 minutes for a clean table. Everything there is delish - it's hard to make a choice and unfortunately some of the choices were already out. The folks that come there all know each other, they are obviously all community neighbors, old school chums or church associates. Wonderful place for people watching and Shari and I topped off our lunch by sharing a homemade blackberry cobbler. We didn't have it tho with Blue Bell on top. It was YUMMY!
Today's thought from former president Herbert Hoover "About the time we think we can make ends meet, somebody moves the ends." That is the truth for sure.

Garden Gals welcomes

Master Gardener Mike Mendeck. Retired geologist, world traveler, Mike very generously gave us an interesting presentation on Rainwater Harvesting. There are so many ways that we as individuals can conserve and use the "free" rainwater that comes our way. The luncheon was at the Club and everything went well. Nice attendance of 18 gals, I believe everyone was happy they came, learned how to be efficient with our rainwater and to meet Mike.

10/10/10 and it's

10/10/10 a.m. That's 10 a.m., 10 minutes, 10 seconds. How about that!
Say Happy B'day to my friend Dave. Today is his birthday and he is celebrating a new grandson born 10/8/10. That's neat! Congrats Dave.
It's a beautiful day and I'm set for TEXANS, popcorn and just hanging out doing things around the house. Enjoy the weekend!

Fun on a beautiful

Saturday. You never know who is coming to Montgomery. As I was driving down 105W to go to Martha's Bloomers (a nursery I was going to preview) at our local McDonald's I saw that Ronald was going to be there today. I didn't want to stay that long until he appeared but I did get a pic of his vehicle. Pretty cool. Onward to Navasota, TX. to go to Martha's and then in to the town to see what else was going on. Stopped at the Farmer's Market and visited with some of the local vendors. Also went into an art gallery newly opened. It was a beautiful day and I really enjoyed being out in the fresh air (allergy none the less) but still a nice outing.

Brunch on the patio. My little lizzard friend was nearby so he watched while I enjoyed my morning paper and breakfast.

21 Years and counting.....

October 7, 1989 - October 7, 2010 - Happy Anniversary to a great couple. She saw him across a party room and fell for his smile. He saw her across a party room and fell for her beautiful eyes. So the story continues, he still refers to her as "his beautiful bride" and she still loves his smile. They have made a happy home for themselves and their two children (my wonderful grandchildren) and I wish them many many many more years.

Today's thought "It's a good thing!" author unknown but the thought lingers on.

1st Saturday in October

It's First Saturday in Montgomery, October 2, to be exact. I've missed going to 1st Saturday because I had been going into H'town for the past several months, but I'm back home for good and enjoying it mucho'. My fav gals were there today from Brushy Creek Farm (Home of the very happy and pampered goats). I loaded up on their Goat Milk Lotion in Eucalyptus Spearmint flavor. Nice, Nice! Saw a friend of mine from CRMC where we volunteer together on Mondays. She was participating with a friend who makes really cute tote bags. The usual vendors were there with fresh veggies, (no pumpkins unfortunately) and herbs. Also the "honey makers" were there with their tasty goodies. It is so nice to be outside when we have a beautiful day and shop and visit. Went into the town and hit a few of my favorite haunts. A really nice day and topping it off tonight with the BAMA team. Roll tide Roll!
